The overhead squat

The new CrossFit Total --- for both neal and jason, their 1RM OHS is right around their 1RM clean.  to me, this seems surprising in that my own personal max clean is way higher than my OHS.  also, i cant see the guys in the olympics doing an OHS at the weight they clean.  does this make sense to you?  if so, what does this say about me.

A few thoughts on this question:
1. Athletes who are completely comfortable and competent in the overhead squat can basically say, "If I can get the weight over head, I can overhead squat it."
2. In general, most athletes can clean more than they can overhead squat. How much? Some nerd could do the math, but it's not really worth the time. The only comparisons I would spend too much time considering (especially as a beginner) would be front squat to clean and overhead squat to snatch.
3. Neal and Jasons are uber-athletes and are quickly becoming legends- admire, respect and learn from them, but do it at a distance. They CrossFit for very different reasons than you, and there are only so many parallels we should draw between what the superman and everyman do.
4. Here are some basic standards with which to consider your lifts. At the end of the day, these sorts of markers only matter so much. What really matters it tracking your own weights and times, then watching them improve over time. Not happy with the pace of your progress? Talk to a coach and figure out what you need to do to get on track.
