Why is CrossFit so hard sometimes?

Jamie asks: Why is CrossFit so hard sometimes?

A little bit of context for this question: this morning Jamie had (like the rest of the class) stretched with me, performed the warm up and was on her second set of hang snatches she asked, "Why is CrossFit so hard sometimes?" I took her question to mean, "Why do I feel better sometimes while working out than others?" Let's focus on a few possible options. You may feel like shit because...

1. You need a rest day. Have you been in too many days in a row? Getting stronger is about tearing the body down (lifting heavy things) only as much as it is about letting the body rebuild (resting.)
2. You did not adequately warm up. I have said before that group training is less than perfect. I can only write one warm up on the board, and it is likely that this warm up may not address your incredibly sore hamstrings, for instance, or your tired neck from a poor night of sleep. If that is the case- take some time during the warm up to focus on the pieces that you know need the attention. I won't mind, in fact I'll admire you for it.
3. Gotta get your head in the game. A warm up is just as much about turning your mind on as it is about waking your body up. Focus on what you're doing now, and be respectful of what's on the way.
4. You're doing something wrong. If a movement feels wonky, there's a chance you're just not doing it right. Never hesitate to get my attention and ask a question. I do really enjoy my coffee, but I like helping you even more.

Yes. I mean you.

Are you going to have a great day today?
